Indian Americans of Alameda City Donate $5,500 to Alameda Food Bank

Alameda, CA – November 22, 2025 — Indian Americans of Alameda City (IAAC), a newly formed nonprofit organization, demonstrated its commitment to community welfare by presenting a check for $5,500 to the Alameda Food Bank on November 21. The donation was received by Teale Harden, Director of the Alameda Food Bank.

Immediate Impact on Community Needs

The donation comes at a crucial time. Like many food programs nationwide, the Alameda Food Bank has been impacted by reduced government funding, including cuts to programs such as SNAP and disruptions from a temporary government shutdown.

“Your generosity is helping ensure thousands of Alameda families have access to the nutritious, reliable food they need during the holiday season and throughout the year. We are deeply grateful for your partnership and the care you’ve shown for our community.”
Teale Harden, Director, Alameda Food Bank

IAAC initially set a goal of $5,000, but the strong enthusiasm from the local Indian American community helped surpass the target, raising $5,500.

About Indian Americans of Alameda City (IAAC)

As Alameda’s Indian American population continues to grow rapidly, IAAC was established to strengthen community connections and foster civic engagement.
The organization’s mission is two-fold:

  • To create a unified space for celebrating and sharing Indian culture.
  • To actively contribute to local community initiatives and deepen engagement with the broader Alameda community.

Recent Community Engagement

Diwali Celebration

On October 25, IAAC hosted its first-ever Diwali Festival of Lights, featuring captivating dance performances, delicious food, and live music.
More than 200 people attended, and the event included a special welcome from Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft.

Long-Standing Contributions

Even before IAAC’s official establishment, the community actively participated in events such as:

  • Diwali celebrations
  • Summer picnics
  • Alameda’s Fourth of July Parade
  • Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Local Collaboration

IAAC members have also collaborated with local organizations like the Mastick Senior Center, donating food and essential supplies in the past.

IAAC organizers plan to expand their outreach, increase cultural visibility, and strengthen philanthropic efforts throughout Alameda.
